Santander launches a pioneering system to measure the sustainability of its entire tourism ecosystem in partnership with Bioscore<\/strong><\/p>

The program is launching with its first participating companies and aims to standardize the destination\u2019s sustainable management based on ESG criteria<\/em><\/p>

Santander has launched\u201cSantander Destino Sostenible by Bioscore<\/strong>,\u201d<\/strong>a system that will enable the measurement, management, and improvement of the sustainability of tourism businesses in the destination based on ESG criteria (environmental, social, and governance).<\/p>

The initiative, launched by the Santander City Council and presented last March at the Palacio de la Magdalena, has already begun its implementation phase with the participation of the first tourism companies, marking the project\u2019s operational launch.<\/p>

The program is part of the\u201cNorte Litoral \u2013 Costa Quebrada\u201d<\/strong> Tourism Sustainability Plan<\/strong> and is funded by the NextGenerationEU<\/strong> program.<\/p>

The goal is to develop a common, measurable, and verifiable sustainability management model that will enable accommodations, restaurants, activity providers, museums, tourist transportation services, and other industry stakeholders to move forward in a coordinated manner toward a more responsible and competitive model.<\/p>

To this end, the project is structured around a Tourism Sustainability Management System (SGS Destinos<\/strong>), which helps businesses measure their performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement best practices through technological tools, training, and specialized technical support.<\/p>

Santander City Hall<\/strong> emphasizes that this program \u201cenables progress in transforming the tourism model by integrating the business community into a shared strategy that strengthens the destination\u2019s competitiveness.\u201d<\/p>

For his part, V\u00edctor Monz\u00f3n, CEO of Bioscore<\/strong>, notes that \u201cdestinations that do not structure their sustainability efforts around common data and systems will fall behind. Santander has been taking that step from the very beginning, building a model that will enable coordinated measurement, improvement, and communication across the entire tourism ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>

The first phase of enrollment is free for participating companies, making it easier for them to join the program from the start and gain access to tools and specialized support.<\/p>

The initiative remains open to new participants and invites lodging establishments, restaurants, activity providers, cultural venues, and other tourism-related businesses to join this collective effort.<\/p>

With this project, Santander is positioning itself as one of the first destinations in Spain to take a comprehensive approach to sustainable tourism, bringing the public and private sectors together under a single system for measurement and continuous improvement.<\/p>
